Near Bude on the North Cornwall coast these two lakes offer a variety of activities including watersports, angling, walking and relaxing.
Upper Tamar
Our Activity Centre at Upper Tamar offers kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, sailing and windsurfing for individuals, families and groups. Visitors can benefit from tuition from our qualified instructors, hire equipment or launch their own craft.
The peaceful campsite is an ideal base for exploring North Cornwall and North Devon and is perfect for families, groups and couples.
The Frog Hopper Café overlooking the lake offers a variety of light lunches, cakes and beverages. A visit to the new play area is a must for your little adventurers. There is also a popular round lake walk and cycle trail, which is suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs, takes about one hour,
Coarse anglers' will also enjoy this attractive lake - permits are available from the permit kiosk on site or from www.swlakesfishing.co.uk.
Lower Tamar
At Lower Tamar you will find a much smaller lake with easy going footpaths. The Lower Lake is predominantly managed as a nature reserve as it is popular with many wildfowl. There is a bird hide open to all and several picnic tables.
Both lakes have their own car parks and linking footpaths creating longer walks. The Bude Aqueduct Walk starts and finishes at Lower Tamar Lake for which a trail leaflet is available from the café.

Clovelly Village
At Clovelly Village after being welcomed with an audio visual exhibit, you are free to explore the Kingsley Museum and the Fisherman's Cottage alongside the lovely Clovelly Court Gardens! This things are covered by your admission, but there's so much more on offer in the rest of the village too!
One of the highlights for kids is definitely Owl Magic, where your family can learn all about their birds of prey and watch cool live demonstrations, then actually fly a hawk or falcon yourselves!
Out in the Harbour there are Boat Trips, Charter, Angling and Diving opportunities plus simple family fishing from the old harbour wall!
Plus, The Clovelly Silk and Pottery Craft Workshops offer older kids (and you!) the chance to make their own silk scarf or clay pot to take home! They also Rag Rugging demonstrations and the Rowan Tree Studio offers classes in sewing, quilting, knitting, furniture painting, soap making and candle making. Something to suit everyone!

St Nectans Glen
This charming natural wonder site at Saint Nectan's Glen is situated where the River Trevillet has delicately carved its way through the swathes of Late Devonian slate and naturally created a splendid 60 waterfall! Over time this itself formed a hole through the original basin where the clear and sparkling waters now cascade into a beautiful valley, stunning to behold and wonderful for family photo backdrops.
Rare specimens of plants make this a recognised Site of Special Scientific Interest, which you can have a good think about in the meditation room!

Widemouth Bay
Widemouth Bay is very long open bay popular with families and surfers and at low tide there are hundreds of rock pools to explore.
Situated just 3 miles south of Bude and accessible along the South West coast path, Widemouth Bay offers fantastic conditions to learn surfing or body-boarding, which is why many of the local surf schools are based there. It has also received the Blue Flag Beach Award 2019.
Viewing areas with free car parking are located at both the north and south end of the bay so you can enjoy the fantastic panorama without getting your feet sandy! Surfers will experience a variety peaks from the north to the south end of the beach, breaking on sand or reef, producing spilling or heavy barrelling waves. You'll also spot the Black Rock landmark.
Suitable for: Beginners to experienced surfers. Dangers: High tide rocks in the middle of the beach and at Black rock. Rips also near there. Crowded in the busy season. Tides: Surfable at Mid to high tide. Wind: E/SE offshore.
Weekend lifeguard cover in April. Full lifeguard cover from the 5th of May until the 30th of September. Weekend lifeguard cover in October and full cover from the 20th-28th of October.
Please note: Dogs are welcome throughout the year on the southern section of the beach (Black Rock). The northern part operates a seasonal dog ban between Easter Sunday and 30 September (2018).
